Day 2: 21 Prayers that Changed Everything

21 Prayers that Changed Everything

Day 2

1 Chronicles 4:9-10
Jabez, a minor character in the Bible and rarely heard of, is usually remembered by the prayer he made. His prayer changed the destination of his life and defied the odds set against him.

According to Jewish culture, the name Jabez means “pain”. His mother experienced pain when giving birth to him resulting in the name he received. Jewish tradition places great emphasis on the name one receives, as it often foreshadows the individual’s future. In other words, Jabez was destined to have a future full of pain and distress.

Jabez refused to settle for this. He changed his destiny by crying out to His creator. He prayed, God listened and God intervened. Jabez was blessed not only spiritually, but also materialistically. This prayer marked a before and after in his life. Jabez changed his future by engaging with God and not accepting the negative words placed on him.

Prayer Today: As you pray, tell God about your dreams, plans and goals. He is listening and wants to bless you, both spiritually and materialistically. The words that you say in your prayer, go beyond the negative words that have been launched against you. Pray to God and change your future.

1 Chronicles 4:9-10
9 There was a man named Jabez who was more honorable than any of his brothers. His mother named him Jabez[d] because his birth had been so painful. 10 He was the one who prayed to the God of Israel, “Oh, that you would bless me and expand my territory! Please be with me in all that I do, and keep me from all trouble and pain!” And God granted him his request.
